I absolutely love to hike and backpack. For me, it’s not exercising. It’s fun. It’s being in nature. It’s spiritual. It’s feeling the energy of the forest. But regular, scheduled, workouts. Nope, I don’t like that. I need to do that, but I really can’t stand workouts.

I’m transitioning from day hiking to overnight hikes and, eventually, longer thru-hikes. There are exercises I need to do and muscles I need to build to prepare myself for this type of hiking, especially as a 50 something woman. How in the world am I going to prepare myself and motivate myself to workout? I found an article on Warrior Made with tips for workout motivations: 14 Fitness Motivation Tips To Get Moving…
- Build habits
- Exercise right away in the morning
- Practice visualization
- Accumulate 3 more ‘wins’ within the first hour of your day. I love this one. A “win” can mean drinking a large glass of water, doing some yoga, or eating a healthy breakfast, anything that can help you reach your goals.
