Happy Monday everyone! Here’s a beautiful affirmation to begin your week.
As my week progresses, I vow to spread my light wherever I go.
The best way to spread your light is through random acts of kindness. Did you know that kindness is scientifically proven to boost 3 hormones designed to regulate mood, form social bonds and feelings of euphoria. During acts of kindness, the following 3 hormones are released:
- Serotonin-a mood regulator
- Oxytocin-aka- “the love hormone” helps form social bonds and feelings of trust
- Dopamine – a feel good brain chemical that gives feelings of euphoria.
According to an article from Cedars-Sinai Hospital called “The Science of Kindness“, there’s a trick to this kindness thing. Here’s a quote from that article:
“The trick you need to know: Acts of kindness have to be repeated,” Dr IsHak says.
“Biochemically, you can’t live on the 3-to-4-minute oxytocin boost that comes from a single act.”
That’s why kindness is most beneficial as a practice—something we work into our daily routine whether in the form of volunteer work, dropping coins into an expired parking meter, bringing a snack to share with your officemates, or holding the elevator for someone.
