This is an important yet difficult affirmation. Most of us have negative thoughts from time to time. (All too often, if you’re like me). I am in no position to help anyone else with their negative thoughts, so I did some research. (This one is longer than my usual Morning Affirmations.)
Before I share what I found…If you have a favorite method for defeating negative thinking, or you can recommend a website/book, PLEASE leave a comment below so we can help everyone else. THANK YOU!
I found this 3 part article from psychcentral.com on negative thinking. If you’re interested in getting rid of negative thinking, I think this series of article is a great place to start. Part 1 discusses how to become aware of negative thoughts, while part 2 helps with how to let them go. My favorite part of the series is part 3, How to replace negative thoughts, which lists 7 ways to train yourself to replace negative thoughts with positive ones.
My favorite of the 7 ways to retrain your brain is the The 2-column method. – Make 2 columns in a journal or on a piece of paper. In the first column, list all the negative thoughts that come to mind. In the second column write at least one positive thought or “counter argument”. Replacing the thought with more than one counter argument is better.
- Find new evidence. Replace every negative interaction/thoughts 5 positive ones.
- Practice self-compassion. Don’t be hard on yourself when you think negatively. Instead, thank your “inner critic” for trying to protect you.
- Identify a call to action. Create achievable goals to correct the negative thoughts.
- Soften the blow. When a negative thought comes to mind ask a series of questions such as “would I say this out loud to another person.”
- Practice self-acceptance. When negative thoughts arrive, acknowledge their existence. It even recommends you add the phrase “…and I love that.” after every negative thought as a way to accept every part of yourself.
- Therapy. This can help with issues you cannot conquer on your own.

Thank you for adding that great tip. What a great way to learn self acceptance. Thanks for your comment!🙏
For me. Say I feel stressed and unconfident. I write. I am confident, I am calm, I can do. I write it our 7 or 21 times as lines, 3 times a day, for a very long time. This rewires me and my thoughts and magic happens over time. I feel better and able to face things better.
I will still be a wip.. but I feel stronger.
This is a great idea. A way to convince the brain. Love this! Thanks for the comment.🙏
Thank you and welcome
I’d like to share one of my posts Brain Rewiring, which helps explain how the whole process works. I also have many posts which speak to developing positive thoughts, suspending judgement, learning to like ourselves, etc.
